“ I think one thing is that anybody who's had to contend with mental illness, whether it's depression, bipolar illness, or severe anxiety, whatever actually has a fair amount of resilience in the sense that they've had to deal with suffering already, personal suffering”. ( Kay Redfield Jamison, 2016). In other words, anyone who has to deal with any type of psychological disorders has the capacity to get back to normal because they have been through other life situations that they have overcome before. A psychological disorder can be defined as a disorder that causes a person’s behaviour, emotion and thoughts to be in suffering. Therefore, the emphasis of this paper will be on a psychological disorder called schizophrenia, depicted in the movie known as out of darkness. In addition, an overview of the movie, an evaluation of the disorder portrayed an analysis of the movie and my reaction towards the movie will be included. The movie was based on a true-life story in the 1990's, and emphasized that schizophrenia is a serious thought disorder that affects one out of every one hundred Americans. I also had an overwhelming feeling because the movie was long and sad. However, despite my sad feeling I learnt a lot more about schizophrenia and what it can do to its victims and their loved ones. I even had thoughts about being in a situation where I would encounter a client with abnormalities and how would I react. With that being said I became appreciative of what I am being taught now and people who are already in the field of counselling. It is very unfortunate of the obstacles life situations can cause if not dealt with amicably.
