Hi Troy, I am glad you are almost finish with your degree. When I first entered college over 20 years ago I was planning on being a psychology major. But after seeing my English college class seeing how much it took for me to write an essay. I ran to a degree that incorporated my love for math and business. I chose to do Accounting.
Psychology, one of the most interesting subjects and most common major out of college. Psychology though is much more than studying behaviors caused by the brain. There is an intriguing history, rules and ethics for conducting research, and many categories under psychology. Psychology is a fascinating subject with many studies, science, and a lot of research. This is what psychology is today, but the history is less structured and scientific.
It was under the most delicate of circumstances, when I realized what I was born to do for the rest of my life. It was march 2007, my grandfather was suffering from pneumonia and due to his deteriorating condition he was hospitalized. I had flown in from Toronto to be by his side. Sitting anxiously by his bedside with tears in my eyes wondering if I could do anything to make my grandfather feel better, I watched doctors come and go , updating us on his blood reports, EKGs, chest x-rays, ABGs, and at the same time constantly counseling my concerned family members. As they explained what they were doing to bring my grandfather to the path of recovery, I watched in utter fascination.
I am studying a Psychology degree and this field I have chosen really interests me because I have a passion for helping people. Generally, I am that type of person to put other's happiness and well-being before my own, because it makes me feel like I have a sense of purpose. Also, since I was a little girl I have always been so fascinated with the way people interact, behave, think and feel. I always asked 'why?' and I still do to this very day.

I was too small to comprehend the terms they were using, so I started a journey to to understand them that has led me here, twenty-something years later. I was born to a world full of physicians. Almost everyone in my family is a physician, specializing in various areas.
Overall, clinical science is extremely interesting to me, especially because I plan to become a clinical psychologist, and understanding the most appropriate therapies for various disorders would allow me to treat patients as efficiently and effectively as possible. At 16 years old, I had no clue as to what career I would be heading into in the future and I was starting to get a bit worried. I was going to enter my junior year of high school and I needed to enter an alternative course on my course selection sheet, in case the AP Psychology would not have any room for me. I randomly selected Marketing Essentials, confidently thinking that I would definitely be in AP Psychology next year. Little did I know, AP Psychology was full of students and I ended up having Marketing Essentials on my schedule, a topic that I had no knowledge of.
Twenty-four million seven hundred twenty thousand minutes: That is how long the average American will spend in the workforce after high school. So finding out how you want to spend those minutes is critical. Unknowingly, in 2020, I would be entering into the most trying year of my life for myself and the whole world: The outbreak of Covid 19 stopped the world. It left scars on everything and everyone.
One of my goals is to attend the University of Northern Iowa to receive my bachelor's degree in Psychology. After I finish my bachelor's degree at UNI, I intend to attend graduate school where I will earn my masters degree. Down the road, I may also be interested in earning a PhD in Psychology. I am currently choosing to earn a degree in Psychology because this subject intrigues me. I took an introductory course in high school and love learning how humans develop.
The more I don’t know, the more I know. The more I realize I don’t understand, the more I discover my desire to know more about psychology. My interest in educational psychology was triggered by my first experience in changing schools.
Research in psychology opens the platform to endless possibilities. For example, research into brain plasticity and the knowledge we gain, may aid us in reversing the effects of dementia. Psychology can give us the power to not only interpret and appreciate, but also adapt and modify things we did not once think were possible. Religion is a human phenomenon and therefore it is open to be studied by psychologists. It appeared to me from the onset that a religious cognition was the reason for belief in God and I was fascinated to learn the reasons why so many millions of people persisted on holding onto beliefs that may seem irrational or do not comply with empirical evidence.
Hello, first off I would like to introduce myself I am Kaylea, and I would like to go to UW to continue my study in psychology. I have realized while growing up that there are a lot of people who go un-helped, Labeled, and unnoticed. People who are homeless, low class income, or just missed might actually need help and aren’t getting it. I want to be the person who helps. Although my life has been ups and down quite literally I’ve managed to pull through, and I want to help others pull through also.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have felt a calling to help people and change their lives for the better. I feel that psychology is a degree in which no matter what job I end up receiving; I will be impacting and making a difference. Preston High has offered me with many classes that have helped me further my college education. Some of my most enjoyed times are when I am helping others and knowing that I am making people feel good. I am looking forward to my college experience at Fairmont State University.
My entry to the field of psychology has been on a very personal note. It happened to be a very sad incident in my life that has personally motivated me to be in the field of mental healthcare. A very dear friend of mine in high school decided to end his life for reasons that never seemed obvious to anyone around him. I always thought he was a happy soul but never realized he had something that deep going on within. The repercussions on the family following the event were very deep.
In five years, I hope to be in college, studying about something I'm interested in. I want to get into a good college with a great psychology program where I can learn enough about it so I can turn it into a progression. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a hobby which is directly related to psychology, unlike other professions where your hobbies can be very similar to what you would be doing in that job. I believe that given the environment I was born into, where I have had to help many people to get through tough periods in their lives, I could be a good psychologist. This being my reality, I have grown to enjoy listening to people’s problems and difficulties and trying to help them to the best of my abilities.
