I decided to apply to UW Madison because of all the different opportunities that the university has to offer. The psychology program is exceptionally strong at this university and when I looked through the requirements for the major and the course catalog, I was extremely interested by the classes offered for this major. Specifically the cognative and social psychology courses because I have always been very keen on human behavior and I am super interested to discover how and why people act the way they do. I also plan to follow the Pre-Medical track
Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. As a student of organization and willingness to participate in classroom discussions and interactions, I believe those attributes of me as a student set me up for success in this class. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. As an AP English student I am mainly interested in continuing to practice and develop reading and writing skills
Personal Statement Ever since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with figuring out why we think and act the way we do. I would often play silly “mind games” with myself, or wonder if someone was experiencing the same physical experiences I was. You can imagine how I felt upon learning about neurons and the various cortices of the brain. Then I did not quite know how to put it in words, but now I realise that I am enamored by cognitive science, specifically the environmental and genetic factors that determine behavior. Moreover, as a neuroscience major, I have had the opportunity to be exposed to various types of biology academically.
Growing up, I had been taught to think and solve problems within the constraints of fixed formulas and theorems. When I was introduced to cognitive neuroscience research in my sophomore year, I was amazed by it: being able to infer the limits and potentials of the mind from behavioral performance and biological experiments was a fascinating concept to me. To further explore my interest in cognitive neuroscience, I pursued research opportunities in a laboratory setting. Through my involvement in various research activities, I fell in love with the creativity and intricacy of designing experiments, the excitement of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, and the fulfillment in constantly learning new things about cognition. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), since 2002, more than 10,500 victims depicted in child pornography have been located and identified by law enforcement. This number can hardly capture the potential victims that may exist, as there have been millions of tips submitted in 2015 alone. The summer of 2017, I interned at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, stationed at the Tampa Field Office. During our orientation, we were introduced to the various divisions and squads in the office.
Despite being incredibly passionate about psychology, I cannot seem to pinpoint exactly when and where this passion came from. The farthest I can go back is when I was thirteen and deciding that I would study psychology in college. I didn’t know where I would study it, or what I would do afterwards, but I knew that I wanted to learn about behavior and the human mind. Once I got to high school, I became very serious about what I wanted to do, and what would best help me achieve doing it. I joined my school’s Psychology Club, and took any and all helpful classes.
During my high school years, I pondered upon what my future held for me. The only thing I knew at the time was I loved science. It was during my junior year that I discovered how much joy my AP Psychology course brought me, particularly the units which covered the brain and how it produced behavior. This set me on my path to pursue my undergraduate degree in neuroscience. When I arrived at Randolph-Macon College as a freshman, I had the opportunity to meet a couple of excellent peers whom I will be forever grateful to.
One of the most effective ways to enter the world of the brain is through research. Through more than three years of my undergraduate study, I have participated in several fields of neuroscience study, ranging from brain signal analysis, psychophysical experimentation, to computational modeling. My very first project was about the electroencephalography (EEG) analysis on positive/negative mood, based on changes in alpha and beta waves, which was conducted at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Then during last summer break, I had another opportunity to do an individual research, sponsored by EPFL, Switzerland. The project under my responsibility is the psychophysical experiment on personal susceptibility to visual illusions.

Personal Statement For my research as a bachelor of Education I worked on the effects of low education on pregnancy and its outcomes in urban area of Montreal, Canada. For this research I examined a sample of 100 families. As the result of my research, in this random sample, women and their families with some basic education were better aware of child cares and necessary cares during pregnancy, such as prenatal exams, than those women and families with no education. After this research I understood that if I continue my education in the field of Adult Education (MAED), it can help me to be more successful in teaching basic and necessary child cares and pregnancy cares to women and their families with low education, which is my interest job.
Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Personality begins where comparison ends”. When trying to figure out who you are as a person and what your personality is like it is often tempting to compare your personality traits and states to those of the people around you. However, this is tends to do more to confuse than help when trying to figure out your own personality. Only by looking at yourself and the bigger picture your personality traits and states create that you can truly understand yourself and your personality. The two assessments taken before this assignment are designed to help with this process.
I have taken several steps to pursue my aspirations in life. Beginning in the classroom, I have applied myself by taking many of the hardest classes offered at my high school, including AP, PLTW, dual enrollment, and Scott Community College classes. I have taken all this classes while still maintaining a 3.962 unweighted gpa and being in the top five percent of my class. These efforts in school will help me to pursue my future career aspirations of engineering in the field of renewable energies. By gaining a solid foundation in the fields of math, science, engineering, I believe I have prepared myself to pursue my aspirations of a college education and degree.
Many times during a day, I think to myself about how blessed I am to be allowed and able to participate in so many different activities and life experiences. As a student, I have always been extremely involved in school and community activities. I have added major interests throughout my life which include school organizations, extracurricular activities, and working in my community. Most of these interests were instilled at a very young age, because I was lucky enough to watch my older brothers have the same exceptional experiences in life.
The more I don’t know, the more I know. The more I realize I don’t understand, the more I discover my desire to know more about psychology. My interest in educational psychology was triggered by my first experience in changing schools.
In five years, I hope to be in college, studying about something I'm interested in. I want to get into a good college with a great psychology program where I can learn enough about it so I can turn it into a progression. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a hobby which is directly related to psychology, unlike other professions where your hobbies can be very similar to what you would be doing in that job. I believe that given the environment I was born into, where I have had to help many people to get through tough periods in their lives, I could be a good psychologist. This being my reality, I have grown to enjoy listening to people’s problems and difficulties and trying to help them to the best of my abilities.
