When a couple scouts come to speak to Winchell, his mother inserts an answer for him and when asked by one of the scouts if he thinks football is fun, Winchell is slightly hesitant to answer.
In this paper I will be interviewing the athletic director of West Chester B. Reed Henderson High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I chose to interview the athletic director because he is my father, Ken McCormick, and one of the main reasons that I would like to go into administration. To maintain a professional tone to the interview I will referring to my father as Mr. McCormick throughout. Mr. McCormick provided me with a copy of his job description. When asked what his main responsibilities are he spoke specifically on scheduling all interscholastic athletic contests for each team at Henderson High School, hiring officials to work the games, hiring of coaches and creation of athletic department procedures and other school procedures

While this chapter is written in regards to a softball programs, I believe that the mission, vision and my style are all adaptable to other sports. The philosophy must be embodied not just by a head coach, but the staff, players and extended community surrounding the athletic program.

Though the physical pain of running had never vanished, the sport eventually became more than a way of dealing with my past scars. When the coach resigned, I wanted and needed to keep the club afloat. Scheduling the meets, running the team practices, and motivating my fellow peers, I became responsible for the success or failure of the club. My ambition was to create and foster an environment in which my peers could also benefit from the discipline of track. As I took on this role, I realized it wasn’t so easy.

Student-athletes need money so that after college they can buy a house and get a job if they decide not to go professional. College athletes are also very prone to injury. Justin Weinstein in the article “Surprising Statistics About Injuries in High School Sports” states that “90% of student athletes report some sort of sports-related injury” (8).
My entire life, sports were influential in every aspect of my life, whether it was talking about sports, playing sports, or watching a game. According to Meghan McDonough, youth organized sport participation is extensive and is developmentally significant for young people (1). Before entering college, hockey was at the center of my life, but I comprehended a slim chance of making the NCAA team or the club team. My coach advised me to play for a club roller hockey team. One of the reasons I applied to SUNY Cortland was their club roller hockey team.
Athletes who play football or basketball are at a higher risk of career ending injuries. These two sports are the hardest on an athletes body. Only one out of twenty-five college athletes go pro, so why put your body at risk when you don’t receive anything for doing that and your chances of going pro are slim? A lot of these student athletes are stressed out because of schoolwork participating in a college sport. This is just another reason that these athletes deserve to be
The Union County Vocational Technical Schools (UCVTS) should have a sports program for students to join. Some students turn down the opportunity to come to UCVTS because no sports opportunities are available. Not many extracurricular activities are available besides clubs on campus. Also, students who attend UCVTS and play sports for their local hometown school can’t enjoy the same school spirt from a hard fought victory as the students who attend the hometown school. Students should play for the school they attend.

When they dismissed the freshmen and sophomores who didn’t make it, he, who wasn’t among us, made eye contact. I had never before seen so much pity directed at me and it frustrated me. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to let it go or find another sport.
