The career I chose is as an Anesthesiologist. I have been very interested in becoming an Anesthesiologist for about two years now. I am interested in this career because anesthesiologists are able to put people into a medically induced sleep for medical procedures. I also like that it is a very hands-on specialty. I want a job in this medical field because I want to be in the healthcare field and I think anesthesiology is fascinating.
I love the one on one aspect of nursing or medicine, which is what I loved about teaching. If I go into medicine, I want to go into osteology. Bones and the way they work is fascinating to me. The way a bone looks like a piece of coral, and the way they break, that’s something I want to study for the rest of my life. I personally have early onset osteoporosis due to my stomach issues, lactose intolerance, and having a history of anorexia nervosa all combine to weaken my bones.
Seeing the passion and enthusiasm that these individuals had for radiology only further cemented my desire to pursue this

This job had everything I was looking for: decent pay, experience working in the medical field, and direct patient care administering EKG’s. For the first few months I thoroughly enjoyed going to work and I relished in the fact that I was being taught many different aspects of cardiology by a well-respected physician such as Dr. Terry.

I know a career in radiation therapy would be the best fit for me. I struggled deciding on a path for myself after high school. I wanted a career in which I could help others in a meaningful way, work in a team, and maximize my learning potential. Patient care seemed like the best area for me, and once I did my first shadow in radiation therapy, I knew it was what I wanted to do. I have done about 21 hours of observation, and in that little time, I learned so much and saw how much of a difference this department makes in people's lives.
The reason why I chose this career was because I wanted to help people by being in the medical field, but I didn’t like the part of “hurting” people while trying to “fix” them, so occupational therapy was my best choice.
Based on my experiences as an undergraduate, I have made the decision to pursue a career in research. Specifically, I hope to one day run an independent research lab as a physician-scientist. I believe that the MSTP at Penn provides the optimal training for such a goal. The university’s rich academic environment, coupled with several unique aspects of the medical training I would receive, such as the blending of basic science and clinical curricula early in the program, the flexibility offered in terms of independent academic pursuits, as well as the diversity present in the surrounding community would provide me with the tools to become a competent physician and a well-versed scientist. Perhaps just as important as the unparalleled education
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”- Mahatma Gandhi. My interest in radiography developed from a variety of work experiences and stemmed from my passion for biology. I personally believe a good radiographer needs to have certain characteristics to be successful at their profession. I got the opportunity to shadow a radiographer in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital. Although I was only there for a short period of time I saw general x-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds.
