World War II (WWII) lasted longer and killed more people than the Great War. There was not a fast victory conquered by bombers hitting the heart of the enemy. Airpower’s contribution to the allied victory did not represented the ultimate fulfillment of the predictions of interwar theorists. Even though airpower had an important role, and many lessons and doctrines emerged after this period, the visions of Douhet, Mitchell and others did not materialized. In this paper, I will discuss three of the main prophecies: the miscalculated effectiveness of the strategic bombing, the inability of airpower to replace the ground and sea forces, and the successful use of the airpower in the defense of territory.
In his thought-provoking article “Social Media: The Screen, the Brain, and human nature,” Justin Vinh explores the multifaceted impact of social media on individuals and society. This essay aims to provide a focused summary of Vinh’s ideas and respond to one specific notion presented by the author. By critically analyzing the author’s arguments, examining our responses, and evaluating the author’s credibility, we can gain valuable insights into the effects of social media on our lives.
A lot of teens are almost always on social media apps. Teens are always on social media apps, especially texting apps. “46% of teens 13 to 17-year-olds say they’re online almost constantly” Bohannon 1). Teens are always on social media apps, no matter where they are. It shows that teens are getting distracted by these communication apps rather than
Twitter currently has over 300 million users. Twitter’s most active age group are between the ages of 18-29, and over 40 percent of the users are teenagers. The website is very popular among youth due to the easy way to communicate with others including celebrities. Instagram is another popular social media site among teenagers. According to Lohmann (2017), “Today, with over seven million users, Instagram is still a hot app with both adults and teens.
“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he bears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away” strikes the heart of the individualistic belief in transcendentalism. Thoreau speculates that if a person is non-conformist the reason may be that the person holds different values and beliefs and is acting in accordance to their own conscience rather than society’s. This is also a warning along with explanation that these people should not be forced to conform but rather allow them to continue to follow their beliefs even if you do not understand it or if it radically different. Ralph Waldo Emerson reiterates this precept of individualism in his line, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
Ralph Emerson’s life began in 1803 on the 25th of May. He was born into a very religious and conservative town in Boston. He had a very strict upbringing as young adult, also a religious one at that with his father being a minister. Ralph Emerson was born into a family of five children but only Ralph and his brother survived to become adults. His whole childhood was plagued with loss and heartache.
Thesis: I agree with Emerson’s statement about individuality because you should never change yourself for anyone, you should love yourself the way you are, and you have your own specialties that should never change. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” There are many people that want others to change who they are all the time. They put peer pressure on the people to change the way they live, how they manage their day, etc. When you put someone through peer pressure they break down emotionally.
A question my coaches often ask me is “What is my why?” Why do I play the game? Why do I dedicate so much of my time and energy to the team? The answer to those questions is more complicated than a simple “I love the game” or “It keeps me in shape.” Being an athlete allows me to give back to the community as I continue to discover myself through the game.
Individualism is “a political and social philosophy that places high value on the freedom of the individual”(Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. 2003,295).In a board sense, it can be an act, a belief and a doctrine that focuses on individuals in fields like politics, economics and culture. The notion of individualism occurred early in the ancient Greek civilization, but a complete theory was not coined until the modern times. Through years of development, it becomes a typical Western value that has been thought to distinguish Western society from other societies. Among the West, America has been regarded as a defining example that stresses individualism as its core value (Deng 2005).
Forty million people a day view Instagram stories, 79% of teenagers use Snapchat once a day, and 51% use it at least eleven times a day. In fact, teenagers use on average five screens a day (Patel, “10 Tips”). The use of social media makes teenagers happier and cures their boredom after school. However, problems arise when young people find all their satisfaction on social media. All this time spent on social media and whether you get enough “likes” could result in a bad outcome and cause poor health.
Social media websites not only uses up time, but negatively impacts many people 's lives. While these sites may be interesting and entertaining, it also contributes to changes in mostly teens behaviors, attitudes, struggles in school, and effective
As previously stated, social media helps kids stay connected with friends and family from different parts of the world because “Online communication is particularly cost-effective and easy to use, allowing adolescents the opportunity to initiate, build, and maintain relationships with family, peers, and even strangers across varying distances” (Anthony, LeCory, and Williams, 494). Even though online communication is keeping people connected, the use of technology at a young age has an impact on adolescents’ personal development. The friendships, children have on social media might not be as meaningful as they seem. The article, Trends in Adolescent Development Impacting Practice: How Can We Catch Up, states that “[…], youth are unlikely to virtually “disconnect” from their peers when they are alone, instead choosing relief from momentary feelings of loneliness or unhappiness over a period of renewal and self-reflection” (Anthony, LeCory, and Williams, 493), this indicates that adolescents do not know how to deal with their emotions.
As the technology era change over time, the social media becomes an important part of our life. We use social media to connect with friends and family, also to found out the latest news or fashion trends. Especially after the great success of Facebook, many other social media follow along such as Snapchat and Instagram. Numerous young age children gradually sink into the virtual world of Social Media. According to the Pew Research Center survey, that majority of Americans use Facebook and YouTube, but young adults are especially heavy users of Snapchat and Instagram.
Nevertheless, social media plays a huge role in our society, it connects people all over the world, provides an opportunity to work or study being at home and it gives space for self-expression. Involving in numerous sorts of social media has become a daily activity for most teenagers and grown-ups. According to a survey, 22% of adolescents log on to their preferred social media site more than ten times a
People also stay connected and interact with one another, with their peers, people of similar interests, and even their family members. This helps strengthen their relationship even if they are busy with their daily routines. In addition, social media sites have become a platform for youth with similar interest or common discipline to get together, building connections and opportunities for their respective careers. Youth claims that social media not only makes their lives easier and efficient, it has become their lifestyle. While social media has seems to bring people together and help one another stay connected, it has created social isolation in regards to BBC News report.
