It is with great pride that we write this recommendation letter for Mrs. Lori Dornburg for the Outstanding Educator Award. We first met Mrs. Dornburg in 2008, when our eldest son was in the 5th grade and involved in Student Council and Academic Extensions at Sartell Middle School, and got the chance to have both of our kids participate in Sartell Middle School extracurricular activities under her guidance over eight years. She is one of the few people from the Sartell – St. Stephen School District that the whole family will never forget, and her impact on our kids and our family cannot be documented within one or two pages. Mrs. Dornburg is a very knowledgeable, pleasant, kind, easy-going, energetic, creative, and sincere educator.

My husband and I immigrated to the United States from Sri Lanka during the 1980s and 1990s, and moved to Sartell in 2003. Because of these circumstances, our kids had very limited social interactions with others outside of school. Whenever our sons competed in Knowledge Bowl, Math Masters, Math Counts, or the Spelling Bee, we would always see Mrs. Dornburg coordinating every event with a smile, no matter what challenges came her way. She would even take part in doing the smallest of tasks, such as selling food and drinks for both competitors and parents and helping to clean up after events. Mrs. Dornburg even offered a helping hand to events that she was not in charge of, including for a Homecoming fundraiser that the high school student council was running for breast cancer research. These are only a small portion of the larger commitment that Mrs. Dornburg has made to help students find their talents, achieve their goals, and learn more about themselves and the world around
