Reflective Essay: Improving My Writing

Throughout this semester I learned multiple ways on improving my essay. As we write more essays in class it's more writing practice for me. Since practice makes perfect, writing more would eventually make someone a good writer. Being a college freshman, I was not used to writing this much therefore, I haven't really got the chance to exercise my writing skills. Through the help of my professor, the book and internet i am able to say i somewhat improved my writing. I improved on keeping my essay organized, on developing my ideas and thoughts. One thing i believe i need improvement is on peer review.

In Order to improve my developments of ideas on my writings, i began to show how my points connect to the thesis statement, as well as discussing its significance and supporting it. These methods helped me to simply develop my thoughts on my essay. Quoting a supporting sentence and then explaining the quote also played a big role on expanding my ideas. Therefore, as i wrote my essay thoughts began to develop. “Second, to support a learning disabled child who has difficulty learning with other kids.” (Asfaw 2). According to my essay “Causes and Effects of Homeschooling”, I expanded this significant cause of homeschooling by discussing how parents and schools deal with it. “Public schools have a challenging time working with kids who battle learning disabilities, leaving them to feel left out, confused and with low self-esteem.” (Asfaw 2). This quote expanded my thesis statement or one of my positive causes of homeschooling by discussing the reasons why learning disabled kids would prefer homeschooling.
