Reflective Essay: Improving My Writing Class

Over the semester, I gained a great amount of knowledge. I am going to explain how my writing has changed since the first day of class to the last essay/research paper, and also some of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. ENG 102 has improved my writing skills well compared to last semester's writing class. Dr. Wenzell taught me various skills of writing. The beginning of this semester, I decided one goal for my English class, and I tried to accomplish it. My problem was grammar of writing essays. So, I was trying to improve it as much as possible, even by studying outside of class time. In particular, I think that I have improved in three different areas from the class: writing process, using quotes, and MLA citation. The writing process is a very big problem for me, but Dr. Wenzell has the step-by-step teaching style of these which I took heed to. I had not known how to actually break down a story and/or poem. It was very helpful when I got used to it because it can make more detailed ideas.
Before I enrolled into ENG 102 course, I knew how to write an essay, but my strengths were limited. My first essay on fiction was improperly punctuated, had a weak body structure, and fused sentences. Even though I tried my …show more content…

My English improved dramatically through reading many in-class assignments, essays, and various open class discussions. I learned many new words, idioms, grammar structures and expressions in this class. The course deals with reading, writing, and teaching how to use grammar properly, my vocabulary has definitely increased. I also have gained the knowledge that correcting each draft brings my paper one step closer to constructing a well-organized and perfect.
