One of the books I’ve read that has had a strong impact on my view of the world we live in today was 1984. Concurrently with the technological revolution and massive innovation that has dominated society for so long, this novel provides the perfect warning for a totalitarian society in an advanced age of technology. I like to think about Orwell’s interpretation of society and connect it with my own perception of the society I live in. I try to visualize how technology has both positive and negative impacts on our everyday lives and I’m excited to see how the integration of it into society will impact my life and those after me. My experience with my grandmother’s cancer sparked my interest in becoming an Oncologist and the future of cancer treatment could lie in technology. Everyday new studies come out describing the ways cancer can be detected, fought, or even cured by the use of technology. Though my grandmother can no longer fight the tragic disease there are millions around the world who can. I’m excited to be a part of the generation that hopes to cure cancer, through research, experimentation, and dedication to fighting the disease that has defeated so many.
