Throughout my many years in school, I would say that I never really enjoyed writing. Writing was more of a task to complete for me, whether it was for a class assignment or for a college application. I always attributed my dislike of English classes to the fact that English is my second language. I thought that I was not good at writing simply based on a past memory of making a million grammatical errors when I was first learning the language at 9 years old. My confidence level in my writing abilities was not very high.

I finally found the passion for writing that I had never experienced before. I found myself reflecting over the ideas that I was trying to portray outside of our class time and for the first time I looked forward to start the writing process. This class focused on identity, and I can say that it helped me find my personal identity in writing. Additionally, the outcomes helped me focus my ideas even more. These objectives gave me the guidance needed to adequately express my voice. This course led me to repeatedly practice new techniques in order to more effectively portray my writing. Outcome 1 gave me the skills necessary to understand varying audiences. Outcome 2 showed me the importance of analysing a text in order to fully understand the message. Outcome 3 required creating a strong claim for my arguments. It also taught me why one should use counter-arguments and how vital it is to provide the stakes of your argument in order to prove why it matters. Outcome 4 provided me with the opportunity to further develop my newly improved techniques to make my pieces stronger. Overall, the outcomes provided the perfect guidance for me to express my arguments.
