As I end this amazing journey as a writing arts student I confidently exit this chapter of my life feeling accomplished. As a first year student my goal for the remainder of my college career was to improve my understanding for writing and grammar. I exit the program knowing this goal has been accomplished thanks to all the great lessons and criticism each professor provided me with. I never intended my writing to be published, but what I did intended was to feel confident and proud in sharing my own writing with peers and professors. Throughout the semester we were introduced to a variety of complex and sophisticated readings that its main purpose was to help us understand the different styles of writing and genres. We used these different styles of writing and genre to create different mini- analysis that discussed the different ideas of these reading we did in class. Breaking down core value III and analyzing its meaning, I understand that being able to critically read complex and sophisticated text was one of the outcomes of this course. Evaluating Writing presented us with a variety of texts that helped us evaluate and construct our own writing better. These different text helped us gathered ideas and information from each text to make our writing more complex and creditable to the reader. We thoroughly closed read each text by successfully understanding its material, having group discussions, and applying its theories and concepts into our own work. One reading in particular that helped me construct mini- analyze 4 was Longmore text “Screening Stereotype- Images of disable people in Television and Motion Picture”, based on the information and theories I gathered after carefully reading this particular text helped me construct the idea that entertainment it’s self tend to portrayed disable people in many negative ways. The reading discusses the different theories and lenses a person could come to use to label a disable person as an object. Longmore discusses the different theories of portraying disable individuals as objects of entertainment rather than actual human beings.
