Why regulate people’s bodies instead of teaching people that bodies aren’t distracting?

While dress codes can show how jobs also have dress codes, school dress codes are sexist and oppressive to students and studies have tried to prove that school dress codes help with preventing distractions, school dress codes also prevent students from expressing themselves, and they do not always help with preventing distraction most of the time they create distraction and force whoever is getting dress coded to lose learning time to go home and change. School dress code policies do not just limit what students can wear, it limits how students can express themselves through their culture, religious identity, or even their sexual identity ("Pardon My Do-Rag"). School dress codes have been a tense topic among students and staff for many years as well as families and schools, as they can have a financial burden on families. Parents have to purchase new clothes for their children to ensure they are compliant with the school’s dress codes. This can be a costly endeavor, as parents have to purchase multiple sets of clothing for their children as they grow and clothing sizes change. The cost of clothing can be a significant hit to a family’s budget, especially for those living in poverty who already struggle to make ends meet.
