In recent years, it is reported that more than 100 million animals die from various of animal testing each year (2004), and about 70% of the animals used are mice and rats. Viewing these shocking data, I believe that many can see the cruelty of animal testing. Accurately speaking, the phrase “animal testing” is any scientific experiment or test for some research purposes in which an animal is forced to undergo something that will cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm (2017). Such animal testing dates to the mid-19th century when the experimental medical science appeared. That is a strong evidence proving that the animal testing is to some extend unscientific. On the one hand, the plain fact is that we cannot make sure that any products that do no harm to the experimental animals are safe for human as well. After all, animals are not completely same with us in physiology. A case in point is the polio vaccine, which is delayed several years just because monkeys are infected with polio through the nasal cavity while humans are infected orally. The difference in stress levels will significantly affect the treatment of poliomyelitis vaccines (2015). When the animals are isolated, the pressure on the animals will cause doubt about the accuracy of the outcome of the drug. During the whole process, not only did it cost quite a lot funds, but also it caused meaningless sacrifice of monkeys as the success rate is really small. On the other hand, in most cases, the animal testing is to study diseases that do not occur in animals in nature, such as some cancers humans suffer only and HIV. Nevertheless, plenty of studies and statistics have proved that the inhumanity and other disadvantages of the living animal testing, together with the great efforts have been already done, we can see a bright future of a non-animal-testing world. This process may be long, but it is not only researchers’ but also everyone’s duty to eliminate living animal experimentation and make a more harmonious
