Most of the lighting in the film appears natural. The lighting seems to be coming from daylight, moonlight, candles, and even portable lamps (used in scenes outside during the night). Although most of the lighting appears to be natural, the colors in the film are so vibrant that it appears that there must have been other lighting used in the film to give the effect. The lighting in the film helps create a story by adding a sort of tone, or feeling to the scenes in the film.
The lighting in Donnie Darko movie is a key component of composition which creates our sense of illuminating for people and things. This movie uses two sources of lighting; natural light, such as daylight, when the scene is in an outdoor area for example, walking from school, at home, waiting at bus stop, or playing outside of the school on sunny days. Another source of light is artificial spotlight which is used in the movie indoors to cut and shape the light at the dining table, in the classroom or in the psychotherapist's house. Also, distinct shadows are used as an essentially smooth surface that reflects hard light in the Halloween party to feature deep shadows and scary areas in function of the plot. Three-points of lighting create ominous shadows in the horror genre for all the actors at Donnie and Elizabeth's Halloween party with lighting from below the cast to create monstrous objects in real life.
Trevor Noah is a world-renowned comedian. He recently hosted the Grammys, and had a popular comedy show called “The Daily Show” which he left in 2022. In 2016 he wrote a memoir titled “Born a Crime” detailing his early childhood and teenage years in South Africa as a mixed child. He was born during apartheid, but Nelson Mendela lifted it when he was still a young boy. Even though apartheid was no longer prominent, he continued to have issues growing up in South Africa being mixed race because there were not many mixed kids that Trevor grew up with.

Racism in Trevor Noah’s life and America Discrimination hasn’t been an issue only in North America but also in other countries like South Africa. America's segregation and South Africa's apartheid had various similarities for instance, inequality because of their color of skin and how they are seen. Segregation doesn’t only affect two groups of people but also the ones who are beginning to live life, for example Trevor Noah who was “Born a crime” and had to act differently in the streets. It isn't just in one place where racism occurs, it can be anywhere in the world. South Africa's apartheid began when the Immorality Act was in place.
In this day and age, our country has been reshaped into a better place by the work and reforms of incredible people and reformers of the mid-1800s. Susan Sontag, an author of the essay “Imagination Disaster,” explores the world of science fiction as she discusses the tropes in films from the mid-1900s. Throughout her essay, Sontag analyzes why these types of films were created, and basically ties her discussion with humanity. With the growing technological advances, science fiction films state specific things about how science threatens humanity. She also ties her discussion to how sci-fi films tend to serve an attempt at distributing a balance between humanity and the technological world. Sontag claims that science fiction films has suspense, shock, surprises, has an inexorable plot, and how they invite a dispassionate, aesthetic view of destruction and violence.
Ideology The movie that I have chosen to analyze is the 2004 film Crash. This film emphasizes the intertwining cultures of today 's society and the conflicts faced from class, culture, stereotypes and racism. The explicit content of this film is to teach the audience that one person 's choices has an impact on another person or multiple people and to persuade the audience that we as a society need to change how we treat each other. The films overt message does generate social dialogue, however, this film can be interpreted by the audience through their own beliefs and behaviors causing some misinterpretation.
For hundreds of years, stories have been passed on from one person to another through the oral tradition and the visual arts. In our society today, film is the dominant form of storytelling. Films shape and inform our opinions of the world. Many people’s only source of information is from films. This can be harmful when the information is false or misguided.
