Racism in Trevor Noah’s life and America Discrimination hasn’t been an issue only in North America but also in other countries like South Africa. America's segregation and South Africa's apartheid had various similarities for instance, inequality because of their color of skin and how they are seen. Segregation doesn’t only affect two groups of people but also the ones who are beginning to live life, for example Trevor Noah who was “Born a crime” and had to act differently in the streets. It isn't just in one place where racism occurs, it can be anywhere in the world. South Africa's apartheid began when the Immorality Act was in place. He, the son of a European man and a Native woman, was "Born a Crime" because of apartheid. Trevor was "Born a Crime" because at that time there was the Immorality Act. Apartheid has affected Trevor Noah's life in various ways. For example, one time when Trevor and his mom were at the store, his mom told Trevor in front of the cashier that she wasn't her mother when he called her, but it was all just a joke. His mother kept telling Trevor that she wasn't his mother and that he was lost so the cashier wouldn't suspect anything, he being a whiter shade than his mother. He became very confused and started crying because at 5 years old he thought that it was true that he wasn't her son. Another example is that he couldn't be seen with his mother in the streets, so when they went out she invited a colored woman who lived in their block so it would seem as she was Trevor's mother. His mom would walk just a few steps behind them as though she was the maid working for the colored woman. When there was no colored woman to walk with them, she would risk walking with Trevor on her own. She would hold his hand or carry him but as soon as the police showed up she would have to drop him and pretend Trevor wasn't
