When we hear the word impressionism only one name comes to mind, Claude Monet. Claude Monet is the founder of a movement named the Impressionist movement. The group members were artist that had found a new style of painting that simplified the way we looked at nature. A few of these artist include some very big names like; Edgar Degas, Alfred Sisley, and Camille Pissarro. This new style of painting was not approved by the critics nor the public of these times. In 1873, Monet and a few other artist were denied from showing their work at the very famous Salon de Paris. In response to this, the group was formed and began holding their own independent art exhibitions.

Oscar Claude Monet was born in Paris, France but grew up in Le Havre, Normandy. At just age eleven, Monet joined the Le Havre secondary school for the arts and became very well known for creating these beautiful charcoal caricatures. A local picture framer would exhibit them in …show more content…

This great piece is a painting of the Le Havre port. Oscar gives the entire painting sort of a hazy look making the background look as if it really is farther away. He also creates a sort of movement coming from the vessels that are floating on the water. The way he applied the individual strokes makes them appear as if they are moving away from us. In addition, He uses that vibrant orange to counter such a gloomy and grey scene. Monet got the idea for this piece from looking at William Turner's work from the past generation. Instead of using the traditional style of blending the colors on the palate, Claude would apply strokes of pure color right next to each other. This technique is what gives the painting a more vibrant look that cannot be done blending the colors.
