Desmond Doss the Hero of Okinawa
How do you define a hero, someone who saves someone selfishly, someone who helps them for all the right reasons, Doss is someone who is all of those things. Desmond T. Doss is an American hero because he saved his fellow comrades at risk of his own life, besides from being in the military he helped people outside of the military and the locals that were at Okinawa, and Desmond Doss never needed a weapon. Doss saved the lives of other people, and was thankful for saving each and every one of them. During Okinawa Desmond Doss carried 75 fellow soldiers to safety over the 300 feet ridge. He carried them to the ridge one by one, each time praying for one more life to help. (Doss 2) He went back every day without a weapon, weighing only 154 pounds. Even Though Private Doss was injured in the line of duty Desmond would give up his stretcher to his fellow member and help them the best that he could.

Although the man was a native, Desmond still aided the man and brought him back to the base even tho he was not supposed to interact with the natives or help them at any cost (Doss 65). Doss could not bare to watch people suffer when he could help them, maybe even save their lives. Before he joined the war Doss headed six miles to a blood bank because a complete stranger had got into an accident, after he gave blood he continued to give monthly (“The True Story”). Even before he was in the military as a medic he gave blood to help those that he didn’t know of. Some of Desmond's friends we classified 4-7 and took their lives (Doss 28). Doss was very sad about it and sent money to help the families as well. Even Though Doss was in the military the locals was important to him to don't matter where he went he was kind and caring to the
