Leonardo da Vinci was well know and came right about during the Renaissance time period. Leonardo was a well-educated man and was very talented in painting and sculpting statues. Leonardo put all his talent to work without wasting any time, and all of his work is still admired by the world and very popular in present day. Leonardo carried a notebook around where he sketched rivers and many realistic and creative things that came to mind. This was a great start for him in which it helped him become a stronger artist and help us figure out his technique and skill and help decode the Renaissance time frame (Bishop pg.207)

Leonardo Da Vinci was an artist, but he really thought like a scientists. He had questions anywhere from how birds could fly to how the human body worked. He even dissected human corpses and drew the different layers. He made a lot of discoveries through observation. Leonardo was able to study light and shadow, then incorporate those observations into his artwork.
Leonardo da Vinci wasn't only a brilliant artist but a skilled scientist as well. He studied nature and how things worked together in order to create more realistic paintings. He often relied upon the theories and concepts of those who had preceded him. He discovered things about lighting and how our eye perceives light solely because because he was interested in how mathematics and art worked together and did not want to accept imperfect theories. Da Vinci rejected concepts held by the optical scholars of his day which lead to some contention among them.
Leonardo da Vinci not only showed a great understanding of value, and anatomy in his compositions, but also showed his understanding of how science worked and how scientist build up on each other’s works and come up with theories and ideas that lead to more discoveries and understandings of how the world works around us and even how our own bodies work. I chose to look into Leonardo da Vinci’s innovation in art and human perception of the world around us. Da Vinci, aside from being an artist, was also very talented at engineering and architecture. He could create efficient diagrams and models of his inventions. As an artist, he needed knowledge of color and visual space to bring his ideas to life accurately. He knew he had much to learn so he studied the world and tried to recreate what he saw in his drawings.
Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing do help me understand why he was considered a true “Renaissance man”. The sketches that he completed over his life time include many different categories. The categories range from innovative original machinery, study of the human body, study of an animal body, the study of different landscapes, and his study of the different organs. He was very versatile in his art. He studied a wide range of ideas to learn and understand how different things worked in the world and things that were fascinating to him.
