Leonardo Leonardo DA Vinci is considered by some as the most intelligent man that has ever lived. His ideas are still studied and used today. Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452 in a farmhouse nestled in the hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano, which is present day Italy. His father was Sir Piero and his mother was a young peasant woman by the name of Caterina. Leonardo was born out of wedlock and had family problems in his youth years.

The topic I chose to research is Art: The work of Leonardo da Vinci on perspective, light, shadows, and color in painting. I am an art major, so I was very intrigued with the subject matter and enjoyed researching about it. Motivated to make his paintings more life-like, Leonardo da Vinci helped to pave the way for painting realistically in the Renaissance era. He discovered a way to make objects look 3D using techniques coined as chiaroscuro and sfumato. By using these techniques in his artwork, other paintings of the era looked flat and dull in comparison.
