The Easy/ Lazy Way Out
Cheating has become a big issue in schools all over the world. Schools anywhere from middle schools to the highest end colleges around the globe have students that cheat. With technology being so advanced now it is easier than ever to cheat: people can go buy an essay off the internet, copy and paste articles and write their name at the top, or simply get someone to do their work. Students are all about getting appropriate grades. Forget learning; they just want the easy way out.

In Atlanta, there was a cheating scandal in schools all over the city. They were changing student’s answers to the state standardized tests, so they would be promoted to the next grade level. According to Don Campbell, the scandals aren’t the teachers, they are “former Republican president George W. Bush and the late Democratic senator Edward Kennedy, who conspired in 2001 to foist off on the nation the No Child Left Behind law, with its absurd decree that every student must be "proficient" in reading and math by 2014” (Campbell). Every student learns at their own pace and at their own level at which the standardized testing reveals where they stand. Some students need more help with their comprehension and their test taking skills. Just because a student can’t pass the test doesn’t mean they can’t be promoted to the next grade level. This is the reason the teachers changed the answers of the students standardized tests. They knew the children were clever enough to succeed to the next grade level and they knew the students didn’t need to be held back. However, cheating is solemn. This was very disappointing that the teachers would do that. The superintendent of the school could possibly face up to 45 years in prison (Martin). They were irresponsible and unprofessional. We cannot stoop down to this level and subdue to cheating. Students need to have self respect because dishonesty is unacceptable. Students cheat and even teachers cheat. We need to become more honest as a whole nation and stop taking the easy way out. Cheating will exert students out of their education that they need to succeed in the
