Van Gogh was regarded as one of the greatest Dutch painters. He didn’t become popular until after his death and only recently. His use of vivid colors and emotions changed the way people and gave more knowledge of what art really was. Even though the painting was ruined, many other artists have created their own reinterpretation of his well known painting called “The Painter on the Road to Tarascon”. The piece “The Painter on the Road to Tarascon” was a self-portrait of Vincent Van Gogh displaying himself as an alienated outsider. Van Gogh painted “The Painter on the Road to Tarascon" in 1888 during his time in Arles, France. “The Painter on the Road to Tarascon” was an oil on canvas painting. This painting is different from his other artworks because this was the only full-bodied one and has a simple background. The man in the painting had similar features as Vincent Van Gogh. In the painting, the man's eyes were the same shade as the grass in background symbolizing the emptiness he had felt. The shadow of the man symbolized that his only friend was himself, which created a sense of loneliness.
