Vincent Van Gogh is now considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time. He lived a very troubled life - many of the mental illnesses that plagued him still are not understood perfectly today - and was put into an asylum many times. His immediate family was not very supportive of his work, even threw out many of his pieces, and it was his sister-in-law that made him famous. A very-troubled Van Gogh had many other career paths before his dedication to painting. The mysteries that surround Vincent Van Gogh leave him shrouded in misconceptions. During this time it is known that he hit a creative streak painting some of his most famous paintings - such as Starry Night - and was given an extra room in the asylum to use as a studio. He unfortunately suffered many relapses of his worsening mental illnesses, eating his own paint at one point, and was restricted to drawing. It is believed that during this time he completed over 150 paintings. In 1875 Vincent was in Paris studying art and the Bible; during this time he believed he had found God and would send letters to Theo which contained Bible quotes. Later, in 1876 he was dismissed at his job and was forced to leave and he traveled to England obtaining the equivalent of an unpaid intern job at a school - he later left that job too - this led him to look further into the Bible. He had many jobs, one of which led him to preach to coal miners, Vincent had found a calling and was nicknamed “The Christ of the Coal
