In Blah, Blah, Blah, the author Kim Kessler discusses the various uses for the phrase “blah, blah, blah”. She mentions how often she has encountered this phrase recently and how frequently people her age use it to complete a thought. The author believes the employment of this phrase can be explained through a few reasons. These reasons include a lack of interesting material in conversations and a way to get to the interesting part of the story quickly. In addition, it is a method invoked by the person speaking to save both energy and time, as well as to show that the person telling the story and the person listening share an understanding.

In Dirda’s article which aims to show what goes into a piece, how it all fits, and the large amount of work needed, he describes the struggles of the modern author when writing. The theme of the book, I Hunt Killers, is you don’t have to follow in your parents’ footsteps. This is the theme for many reasons. First and foremost, Jazz doesn’t want to be like his father. Jazz’s father was a cold blooded killer who was sent to prison for over 120 murders. Jazz is determined not to become like this and will do anything to avoid killing.
On the onset, it might appear as though the federal bureaucracy and Congress are two completely separate entities, with no relation to each other. However, upon a further look into the situation, it is obvious that the two work closely together, Congress makes and passes the laws, and the federal bureaucracy institutes and enforces those laws into action. Even though these two separate entities have their own specific functions, Congress is truly in control over the federal bureaucracy. Among the several different methods of control Congress employees, there are two specific measures Congress takes that standout among the rest. The measure of control is Congress institutes is Congressional investigations.

The author of "Simplicity," William Zinsser has discovered that writing frequently deals with clutter. He makes it obvious in his essay that writing "fuzz" and clutter can annoy and weary a reader. Zinsser emphasizes that clutter in writing not only frustrates readers but also obscures the intended message. He argues that simplicity is key to effective communication, as it allows ideas to shine through and resonate with the audience. Zinsser provides examples of how "clutter" or “fuzz” is harmful to both the writer and his audience, as well as a resource for messy writing.
In reflection to my first icebreaker post, I completed the following sentence "The government can be trusted to do the right thing if they stop.... with the phrase: demeaning the U.S. Constitution and follow what the framers intended. " In respect to my former phrase it has not evolved into a new perspective or understanding, but instead, it supported what other political science professors have written. Lawrence C. Dodd & Bruce I. Oppenheimer (2013) in their book Congress Reconsidered, as well as political scientist Michael Nelson (2014), presents in his compilation titled The Presidency and the Political System. All of the previous publications mention how the government has evolved to modern times and it is not functioning as a deliberator for the citizens but rather a powerful bureaucratic institution.
“Civil Disobedience” is an essay written by Henry David Thoreau about people needing to put their conscience ahead of the government rulings by criticizing American policies and beliefs. He expresses his opinion of a “government is best which governs least” (Thoreau 305) by heavily supporting his topic and by using rhetorical techniques. Rhetorical devices are used in papers for the writer to better persuade the audience or to better understand the topic they are writing about; they can also be used to play with the reader’s emotions. The rhetorical devices that have the most impact on the reader in Thoreau’s essay are allusions, rhetorical questions, pathos, imagery, and chronological narrative.
The formatting which words are used to persuade a group of people is interesting to research. As Levinson describes in his book, political terms in America are over defined or under defined as general semantics views them. In this paper, an analysis of the lexicon of the article will attempt to explain the different connotations obtained by analyzing and understanding the reading. It should be important to note that in order to be ethical, one must ask themselves what implications his or her word usage is presenting to the audience; assuming that one wants to be ethical of course. The word is the power, therefore when analyzing the word usage when speaking or writing about undocumented workers; the chosen words often allow the reader to gaze into the authors conscious and gain an understanding of their stance regarding the subject at hand.
“They’ll turn us into writing robots”, a student contends against the use templates influencing the structure of their essays. (10) In the book “They Say/ I Say”: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein insist that the use of their relevant templates provide tools that will enhance the readers writing skills. These templates provide an exemplary format that one can use when writing an essay. Graff and Birkenstein suggests that, “Instead of focusing solely on abstract principles of writing, then, this book offers model templates that help you put those principles directly into practice.”

Innuendoes and sarcastic phrases can go wrong so fast, and avoiding these can make the relations with friends, co-workers, even professors less fraught with pitfalls. Though the sarcasm and innuendoes make my writing colorful it can misconstrue my purpose.
