He “robs the rich to pay the poor”. This is the motto of the famous outlaw of Sherwood Forest. He was a highly skilled archer and swordsman who never missed his target. Along with his merry men, he fought against corruption of the rich, and the oppression of the poor. He is remembered by all as a thief with good reason. By examining the great accomplishments, famous legends, and the historic figures the legend is based on, it is clear Robin Hood is a famous folk hero.
Robin Hood is the subject of many stories and legends. It is a little disappointing to know that the famous outlaw in lincoln green is just that, a legend. Still, the legends are based on real people. According to the website boldoutlaw.com, “the legend of Robin Hood is made up of a lot of different, often contradictory tales.” Historians have searched for possible candidates on which the legend is based on. Then according to the website lordsandladies, “The Legend of Robin Hood bears many similarities to the English hero Hereward the Wake who led a rebellion against William the Conqueror and the Normans”
