I am emailing you today because I would like to interview to be a DSCI 302 teaching assistant for fall 2016. I have completed my online application, and my answer to the additional question is below. I would like to be a TA for this class because I have used the TA 's for both my DSCI 202 and 302 classes as a valuable resource and would like to be able to give back. Throughout both classes I went in and met with the TA 's routinely to insure that I understood the material fully and had the information necessary to be successful in the classes. I know several other people that have done so as well and we are all very grateful for the time they take to help make the material click.
There are a variety of ways for the teaching assistant to promote the independent learning: -Setting clear rules and instructions help the child build their confidence. Knowing what to do should encourage them to get on with their tasks or activities independently. -Encouraging group work helps students to develop social skills and communication, encourages them to speak up and present their ideas to their peers which builds their self- esteem and confidence and motivates them to independent learning. -Celebrating successes- Students respond well to praise and are usually motivated to do their best.
Propriety and behaviour- While working with pupils it is essential for staff member to behave in an appropriate and professional manner at all times we it is their responsibility to set a good example for the pupil of the school. Teachers and their assistants are often seen as role models therefore it is an important part of the job to set a respectful and friendly example to which their pupils will intern mirror. Working within a school setting, all staff member have a duty of care to their pupils, this means that pupils need to be protected from any harm or danger and regular risk assessments have to take place to ensure the school is a safe environment for the pupils . Also before employing any new staff members the school has to organise  DBS checks to  be done before they can begin to work in the school. Whistle blowing-

I imagined an Instructional Assistant job meant that I would be assisting the Lead instructor with lesson planning and group projects. As a admin and learning support co-ordinator, I am also available for learners to approach with individual issues. Once needs have been established it is my role to negotiate with management (if appropriate) and learning providers to arrange suitable courses that meets the needs of the learners. If training is to take place on the premises I ensure that the rooms are booked and time off is agreed. I also liaise with security and ensure relevant materials are available. After learning has taken place, I discuss with individual learners what went well or not so well, and look at what further support is needed to consolidate or progress.
Good communication skills, the ability to handle administrative duties and maintaining strong student interactions are the qualities that make a professional assistant principal. In looking at the responsibilities and limitations within the teacher trainer role I am drawn to those key elements which motivate learners and inspire them to learn. From the first person perspective my ultimate aim would be to deliver teaching / training and create an environment to facilitate this. The focus of my role relates to inspiring my learner to adapt and then develop their personal and professional skills; this in turn, would nurture their ability to learn. There are key elements which help to facilitate this and which contribute to the planning and preparation you must make. My aim would be to empower my learners to take responsibility for their own development and guide and then control differing factors such as individual learner needs and expectations.
In my professional studies assignment, I examined research on the effectiveness on teaching assistants. As a parent the support my son has had from teaching assistants has been extremely positive. He was during primary school, three years behind his peers in Year 2, however by Year 6 he gained a Level 5 in both Maths and Science and Level 4 In English. I also observed during my teaching practices, teaching assistants deployed in several effective ways, such as helping in managing behaviour; making notes and observations about children to aid report writing. Supporting lower ability and EAL children during mental and oral starters; giving assistance in independent work and providing further explanation and visual aids to support understanding.

I believe that I would be a great fit for this position due to my experiences as a teacher and my academic background in psychology. Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
