In Shakspere’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, 1597, many great examples of literary devices are shown; with its use of blank verse, foil, and soliloquies. This helps improve readers' enjoyment during reading because they create more involvement for a reader. They also make some works seem more appealing or artistic. For example, Romeo and Juliet was written entirely with blank verse. This is a great feat for writing. Therefore it is an artistic work. An example of blank verse can be found anywhere in the play because the entire play is written in this format. For example, “Me they shall feel while I am able to stand; and ‘tis known I am a pretty piece of flesh.” (1.1. 25-26). This line is significant because both sections of it are 10 syllables long. Sometimes they help improve a reader's enjoyment because it is often used in a comical manner. There are a plethora of examples to be found in Romeo and Juliet. Such as the characters Benvolio and Mercutio. Benvolio is a calm and controlled person who despises resorting to fighting. In contrast, Mercutio is a hot headed brute who is often found making crude jokes, and snarky remarks. This makes it very comedical when Benvoilio responds to a crude joke made by Mercutio. This is why I believe that Benvolio and Mercutio are very good examples of a foil; and help improve reader
