The Reward for Disobedience
The word of the Lord says in First Samuel 15:23, “For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.” God has put others in authority over us, like our parents, so that things do not happen. Those who are in charge of us are put there for a reason, and therefore, we should obey them. In Shakespeare’s the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the two young lovers die due to their disobedient and deceiving ways. Since Romeo, Juliet, and even Friar Lawrence did not obey the leaders that were put in charge of them, they ended up paying the price, each in different ways.
Romeo is the son of Lord and Lady Montague, he started out depressed over a girl named Rosaline who was not going to give her heart to him due to her commitment to the church. Romeo was invited to a party at the Capulet house where he met Juliet and instantly fell in love. All of this and the speed at which he was moving caused his blatant disobedience and death in the play. Friar sinned as well, he lied to the parents of Romeo and Juliet and hid their marrige in the dark. Friar failed to get the message to Romeo in Mantua, that Juliet had taken a sleeping potion, and because of his own fear, he left Juliet alone to kill herself when she saw Romeo dead. Friar Lawrence is one of the most guilty subjects to blame for the lovers' deaths and by completing this all behind the parents' backs and in front of God, Friar Lawrence himself has sinned and has caused both Romeo and Juliet to sin with him.
