In the 1500’s there was no t.v.’s, phones, tablets, or even radios! The only activity or entertainment people could watch or listen to is watching plays. A well known play writer in the 1500’s was known as William Shakespeare. Shakespeare wrote a total of 38 plays which is a lot being that they would last around 3 hours. A well known play he wrote is about to star crossed lovers that never had a chance of being together. The two lovers were called Romeo and Juliet. Many people affected the gruesome, depressing ending to this story like Juliet’s nurse, Juliet, Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, Romeo, and even the priest Friar Laurence Romeo was also a huge character in the story (hence the name) that develop the amazing yet depressing plot. Romeo is very over dramatic, wanting love and depressed which is one of the key reasons why Romeo and Juliet died. His personality is always heated and trying to create a bigger hatred between the families than there is right now. Tybalt says “Well, peace be with you, sir. Here comes my man” right before he kills Mercutio in act 3, scene1, line 27. In this part of the scene Tybalt wants to fight Romeo but Romeo will deny because of his new relationship with Tybalt but Tybalt has yet to be told. In act 3, scene 1, 52-55, the play also says “Romeo tries to break up the fight Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s am”. After the murder of Mercutio, Tybalt ran away and Romeo followed them seeking revenge for the death of his best friend. Romeo murdered Tybalt and was charged with banishment and after this point the story just gets worse and worse over again.
