Romeo and Juliet was set during the Elizabethan period when fathers decided whom their daughters should marry. In the Elizabethan period, events such as marriage were based on tradition rather than allowing people to make their own choices. Two young lovers known as Romeo and Juliet were deeply in love with each other, but it was a forbidden love as there was a feud between their families. Their love was meant to be between Romeo and Juliet, yet the hate existing between their families, Montagues, and Capulets, interfered. Due to the secrecy of their marriage, love, and hate, along with the misguided assistance of others, namely Friar Lawrence and Capulet, were the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Some lines that present that hate was the start of the play when Sampson exclaims, “I / will push Montague’s men from the wall and thrust his / maids to the wall” (1.1. 15-17). This expresses and reveals most hate that the two families have for each other. It is obvious that the parents are to blame for this instance because if they did not feud with one another, then it would not be a problem for Romeo and Juliet to fall in love. Juliet's father the Capulet, has to bear most of the consequences of the death of Romeo and Juliet. He was supposed to be a more wise man, because he is way older than them, and he has more experience in his life, more expert in a situation such as Romeo and Juliet. He has done his good, his bad, and was suppose to take a parental permission. But it seems that their fate was on point and arrived at a conclusion after they met. He was supposed to inform their families about their love and should have tried to convince them before making or taking any decision. What made it worst was when Juliet sought for help, and then the Friar had given her that sleep potion which made everyone think that she was dead. Friar informed Juliet how that sleep potion will work “ Shall keep his native progress, No warmth, no breath shall testify thou livest. The roses in thy lips and cheeks shall fade To paly ashes, thy eyes' windows fall Like death when he shuts up the day of life”
