The story of Romeo and Juliet begins as a light, humorous story, but throughout the book it progressively becomes more tragic. The story starts off with Romeo and Juliet meeting each other at a party, and immediately falling in love. They proceed to plan a secret marriage at Friar Lawrences cell the next day, Even though they discovered they are from feuding households. When considering this, Romeo is the most to blame for the tragedy of the play because first of all, he rushed his marriage with Juliet, which could have been an indecisive idea for him. “Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast.” Friar Lawrence, (Rom. 2. 3). This quote shows an example of Romeo moving his relationship move to fast, because in this quote Friar Lawrence is warning Romeo that he needs to proceed with caution and patience in the matters of love. He also mentions how taking his love too quickly with Juliet could lead to bad outcomes. “Then plainly know my heart’s dear love is set on the fair daughter of rich Capulet.” (Rom. 1. 1) In this quote we see how Romeo expresses his love, even though he only just met Juliet that same night. With this, the couple’s secret marriage and relationship didn’t help the problem out because it made it difficult for them to talk to each other and really get to know each other before getting married.
