As an educator focused on student-centered learning in science, I am excited for the opportunity to become a S.T.E.A.M. teacher within Maumee City Schools. Opportunities for students participating in S.T.E.A.M. education afford experiences enriched by lessons focused on the integration of critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem solving. I believe I am an excellent candidate to develop and implement S.T.E.A.M. initiatives within Maumee City Schools.
First, I have a strong background in science, as I majored in biology and recently took 15 Master's level courses within the fields of biology, ecology, and evolutionary science during my Education Specialist program. I have taught seventh grade life science, eighth grade physical science, and ninth and tenth grade biology during my teaching career. I am very focused on implementing lessons aligned with state standards, as well as finding ways for students to both apply their biology content knowledge and implement critical thinking skills. I am extremely proud of my students' performance on the Biology OST during the past two school years, with my students scoring at 98% and 94% proficiency, respectively. These numbers not only

My students regularly engage in collaborative endeavors using Google Slides or Docs. Working at Toledo Technology Academy, which strongly emphasizes manufacturing technologies and engineering, has pushed me to learn about different technologies that can be incorporated into my lessons. Two examples of this include having biology students design a device in CAD that recycles carbon dioxide during a photosynthesis and cellular respiration unit, as well as having seventh grade students use LEGO Digital Designer to create stop motion movies showing mitosis. With technology constantly changing and improving, I am committed to finding ways for students to use technology to meet their learning
