SEI School-Wide Implementation Plan for X High School

I. Background:
According to the DART analysis .5% of the students at X High School have been identified as ELL which is low in comparison to the state of Massachusetts as a whole where 9.5% have been identified as ELL.

The biggest challenge to the success of the ELL students at X High School is the wide variety of different languages and backgrounds represented by the ELL’s that are serviced by the school. This makes it very important that we are diligently applying best practice (SEI) strategies across all classrooms currently servicing ELL students.

As a school we need to develop strong relationships with the families to increase the chances for success of our ELL students. We will be offering an opportunity for families to come to the school one night per week to participate in English classes with our ESL teacher.

III. Rollout Progression:
We will be meeting as an administrative team over the summer to develop the PD sessions for the 2017-2018 school year. The increased focus on SEI strategies will require providing time in the beginning of each school year for professional development time devoted to SEI. In edition we will need to make sure that teachers new to the district are provided with the opportunity to get the training they need to implement SEI strategies in their classrooms this will be accomplished by having the first new teacher workshop of the year focused on SEI strategies.

When we are setting our goals at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year and in subsequent years we will make it mandatory for all SEI endorsed teachers that will be servicing an ELL student to have one of their student learning smart goals focused on …show more content…

Families will be encouraged to attend as a group that may include extended family. These english classes will become part of the school culture going forward.

We will also be forming a PLC devoted to ELL’s and SEI. SEI Endorsed teachers will be strongly encouraged to join the PLC and will be given release time during the school day to make it easier for them to be active members of the PLC.

IV. Implementation Partners:
The success of the SEI implementation plan will depend on the combined efforts of the administrative team, faculty, support staff, ESL teachers, and the ELL students and their families. Administrators will need to put the training and support into place. The teachers will need to focus their effort on SEI strategies, the ESL teacher will need to reach out to the families of ELL students, and the students and family members need to be active participants in the support services being
