A2d: Discuss two short-term SMART Goals to improve leadership practice
I have developed two SMART Goals that will help improve my leadership skills. One leadership skill I seek to develop is communication. Specifically, I’m a poor public speaker, which hampers my ability to communicate effectively. I must have great communication skills to lead effectively. To develop my communication skills, I will attend the Toastmasters meeting, sponsored by my organization, once a month, for at least 6 months. Additionally, I will attend more face-to-face meetings, and ask a colleague for a critique on my speaking skills at a meeting, once a week, for 8 weeks. To help to develop my delegation skill, I will enroll in the Emerging Leaders program at work. I will meet with an experienced leader and be mentored for an hour, once a week for 16 weeks, and be able to shadow them at least one day a month, during that time. Additionally, I will enroll in management-themed computer-based learning provided by my organization, and spend 2 hours per week on training.
