Are we walking the Sustainable Talk? “If current trends are anything to go by, the best is yet to come” These are the words of many corporate companies around the world. One of Sainsbury’s Executives, said: “Sustainability will continue to rise higher up the agenda over the coming years, so it is key that brands work to ensure they can respond to consumer demand. Being a sustainable company is not about box ticking, it’s about future-proofing your business and building trust and brand loyalty that will last for years to come.” Sustainability is increasingly becoming an all-embracing trend, as corporate executives and company board members realize that they can’t continue doing business the way they are. This type of thinking sees that the corporate world evaluates company performance in much more detail than just the financial profit. It actually goes beyond establishing liquidity, profitability and solvency; it actually addresses company sustainability in a context much wider. By being more sustainable, companies became much more cost effective. This by only doing something as simple as putting paper in a recycling bin and switching off lights, all adds up when carbon emissions, waste, water consumption or energy use are concerned. However, sometimes I feel that most of these sustainable executives, board members and decision makers are all a bunch of hypocrites, and first need to ask themselves what they are doing to manage their personal impact. Are they living by example and are they showing genuine commitment to making a difference. My opinion is, that it is easy to make use of an allocated amount of company funds to transform any business in to a corporate citizen that act in a sustainable manner. Can this however be done outside the boardroom? Can they practice what they preach at the workplace, at
