It is with great pleasure that I recommend Lillian Grable as a student in the San Francisco State Master’s in
Education Program. Lillie and I met over 17 years ago when we were students at New College of California. We quickly
grew to be friends and have remained so this entire time. We not only attended classes together, but we have also
worked together both in Student Services (where I was her Supervisor) and within the Irish Studies Program at the
college (where I was Program Coordinator and she was a volunteer). In Student Services Lillie was very adaptable and
effective in helping students achieve their goals and in understanding the processes required by the college. Often the

Lillie was an integral part of the many events we held to raise money and
awareness of the program as well as the literary events we sponsored. She was ready and eager to help and was always
reliable and valuable.
While Program Coordinator I was able to see much of Lillie’s academic work, and as a student her projects were
always innovative and went beyond what was expected. For her senior project Lillie created a comprehensive guide with
extensive documentation of her nearly four months living in the North of Ireland. This volume included photos, essays,
interviews with local residents, politicians and victims of the oppression in the North, political analysis and observation
and countless other types of media collected from various political entities within the communities. The level of
discourse and the work produced for her senior project exceeded the requirements for a BA final project and were more
reminiscent of Master's level work.
Within the larger Bay Area community Lillie has worked with both youth and adults in areas of education, social
justice and civil rights and is always tuned in to what the community needs. She brings compassion,
