During my freshman, sophomore, and junior years of high school I attended a magnet school which used the sixteen habits of mind, a group of skills that promote problem-solving and critical thinking, to provide an interdisciplinary education. Although, at first, learning the habits of mind seemed like a drag, I have grown to appreciate the experience. By encouraging me to view situations in a multitude of ways, the sixteen habits have molded me into a more insightful person. Due to this, I am excited to have an opportunity to partake in the AXLE curriculum offered at Vanderbilt’s College of Arts and Sciences. Once I get my undergraduate degree, I’d like to pursue an MBA and acquire a career in business administration or a related field. Taking courses related to economics and management would help lay the foundation for the career I hope to attain. The second focus I have chosen is music. Since middle school I have participated in musical activities, along the way picking up: the violin, the flute, the trumpet, the piano, and voice. However, I am currently most involved with voice and piano. My dedication to music can be seen in that I founded and led an acapella group. In addition, I maintain a page where I post covers of songs; over the years it has grown to have just over seven thousand followers. Because of my passion for music, I felt it only made sense for me to continue fostering my musical growth during my college journey. Writing is the third area I have chosen. This is because I took AP Language and Composition last year, and it was one of my favorite high school courses. In particular, I enjoyed that the class was centered around seminar-style discussions.
