Saving The Manatees Why is it important to save the manatees? A record number of manatees or sea cows died in the last year and these animals have been on the endangered species list for a long time. It has become a huge problem, and what can we do to solve it? Manatees have become endangered because of humans destroying their habitat, and when humans destroy the manatee's homes, that causes pollution, which can be deadly to manatees. I think that it is important to save manatees because they will be happier, the world will be simpler, and they will be safer, and overall it will have a positive effect on their life, here are the reasons to support my argument. Being endangered means manatees have a low chance of survival. But some people do not realize how much manatees have a part in our everyday lives. For example, manatees help the ecosystem thrive, the article I read stated,¨Like other animals manatees are part of a much larger system. Parts of the ecosystem depend on other parts. When one animal is removed, the system falls apart. Their role in the ecosystem is as plant eaters, as they feast on over 60 species of water vegetation in the waters that they live in. Manatees eat local vegetation in huge quantities and excrete the digested plants to fertilize surrounding environments. Manatees keep the vegetation growth under control and provide the fertilizer to enable water vegetation to thrive. Eating vegetation helps keep waterways clear, and humans do not have to be paid to do this job. Some estimates speculate that this role alone saves the state of Florida half a million dollars a year. And since manatees only eat vegetation, they are not a threat to other water animals.¨ Manatees make life simpler because when you keep the waterways clear for manatees you can save the state of Florida half a million dollars. It is important to save manatees because it will make life
