Energy Drinks Promise Edge, but Experts Say Proof Is Scant is an article written by Barry Meier in which he explains how energy drinks are falsely advertised and contain unhealthy ingredients. I believe Meier makes an excellent case for his argument. He brings up the potential side effects of energy drinks, the immoral business practices of some companies, and the unhealthy ingredients found in these beverages.
Meier brings up a few points early on to talk about the side effects of energy drinks. He explains how some of the side effects of consuming these drinks could lead to dire consequences. Meier says in the third paragraph, “The drinks are now under scrutiny by the Food and Drug Administration after reports of deaths and serious injuries.” The author is telling us that many cases of severe effects are being linked to harmful energy drinks.

He does a good job in including many different examples of the false advertising done by the companies. Meier brings up that many companies use well-known nutrients that catch people’s eyes on labels. “A two ounce bottle of 5-Hour Energy contains 500 micrograms of vitamin B12, or 8,333 percent of the recommended daily allowance.” Meier explains that the energy drink 5-Hour Energy uses the fact that it is high in Vitamin B12 as a selling point, when in reality it is way too high in the particular vitamin.
