Scholarship Essay Being a student means “one who attends a school” - Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, but being a fully engaged student is “the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that students show when they are learning or being taught”- The Glossary of Education Reform. As an aspiring undergraduate of Galen University, I hope to acquire knowledge that will not only make me an expert in my field of study but also an expert in cooperation and promotion of Galen. Students need to do their part in learning information, the teacher can’t teach a student who isn’t willing to learn. To learn you need to be attentive, open-minded and inquisitive about what is being taught. Once you ask questions and participate in the teaching session the information stays with you. By interacting with my peers, I will be exercising the social aspect of student life which facilitates and deepens my personal growth. It teaches me who I am as a person, see insights into friend’s lives and become a better-rounded student. Similarly, in autonomy I will learn to be my own person even though my parents who acts as my safety net will always be there, I will need to learn how to say no to peer pressure and how to say yes to autonomy at times. Additionally, collect new values and standards. By doing so, I will be adding to my list of moral values and widening my view of situations, giving me a new way and stance of seeing things. Correspondingly, my involvement in school will equip me with the skill of listening and attentiveness to my peers.
