1. Which two of the reform efforts described in Chapter 12 of Ryan and Cooper do you believe are the most important for the improvement of American Education? Explain your thinking?

The two efforts that I believe are most important for the improvement of American education is No Child Left Behind Act(NCLB) and the State Educational Reform. The NCLB goal is to “close the ‘achievement gap’ between students who perform well in schools and those who perform poorly” (Ryan & Cooper, 2013, p, 378). The NCLB will pressure school districts with poor performances to achieve a higher level of learning to keep every student on the same path. This very important to help to improve our education. Teachers will be required to teach effectively to prepare students for standardized testing. The State Educational Reform is also important to help improve our American education. Some of the elements that are discussed in the state reform include an increase in graduation requirements, more academic learning time and standards-based education. Students must be challenged on an everyday basis. If students are not challenged they may lose interests on education. With these elements from the state reform, students will be asked to take more difficult classes while using the entire class period for learning.

Schools have been targeting national standards based on their school curriculum. The process is to create standards that specify what students should know. At my school, teachers are creating the curriculum to make sure national standards are met. There are also assessments that are created to see if students are meeting the national standards as well. If teachers are not meeting the national standards, they are letting their students down. It is very important to create the curriculum that meets national standards and at the same time makes learning fun for
