Approximately, 70% of southeast voted in favor of no school uniforms. According to a survey published by the scholastic, 81% of students voted school’s should not have uniforms on March and April of 1997. Even though this data is not recent, it is still relevant because still till this day it is a controversial and popular topic. As a student, being in school for 6 hours for 5 days, not being able to wear what you desire decreases the motivation to wake and attend school. School’s who support dress codes, usually refer to uniforms. However, school’s should shift to the idea of supporting the individuality when it comes to dress codes. Most high schools have expectations to what students should wear, some are stricter than others. A high school student handbook is being displayed in Source G, stating “Dress in appropriate attire which does not distract or offend others.” This expectation is offering students their individuality which schools should support. Supporting individuality teaches students they should feel comfortable in whatever they desire to wear, teaches them to embrace who they are and teaches them that their opinion is the only one that matters. Wearing clothing that is appropriate and not offensive is a fair compromise. However, for those school’s who support uniforms usually agree with uniforms because they believe students will not respect the guideline and dress inappropriately, especially females. If theoretically, school ends at 2:35 , students get home around 2:40 and sleeps around 9 pm. Students are likely to have 6 hours to wear what they desire which usually is sweats or pjs because they are tired of wearing pants all day. In the real workplace, people will have to dress according to the guidelines but they usually are reasonable dress codes. Source B displays a high school bell schedule which demonstrates the time a students has to sit (usually) and learn. Sitting down and learning is a basic way a school runs, however school’s do not seem to understand the uncomfortableness students go through. A dress code who limits a students clothing usually includes polos and pants. Wearing pants is not a clothing a student wants to wear everyday, they might not want to their legs to feel suffocated. In the schedule, it displays periods after periods, not giving students a time to take a break and gather their energy to learn more subjects. Not everyday, students want to be wear pants or polos on top of that learn back to back. The least school’s should offer, is students to wear comfortable clothing like sweats, comfortable shirts, and sweaters. Being in school, killing your brain is tough, on top of that students have to wear clothes that do not like. Students can generally learn better if they feel comfortable in what they are wearing, might even improve their grades since they don’t feel limited
