Science Literacy in the United States is very debatable. In my opinion, I believe the state of science literacy in the United States is good. Many scientists are learning new things, which make science literacy in the United States more reliable and believable. I believe that science literacy is on the rise. I believe it is on the rise because of the new technology and the advanced computer software’s being used to found out science related things. Because of science literacy being on the rise, the people of the United States will have to educate themselves on the science vocabulary. For example, an article on the Huffington Post states, “Sadly, I've heard such comments before. After many a public lecture I've been approached by people who …show more content…
You're buying nothing.” The article continues to say that Americans believe the word “chemicals” is something that is bad to have in your foods. The article also states, “Everything in the world is made up of chemicals, which are nothing other than the building blocks of all matter. The oxygen we breathe, the water we drink and the sugar we eat are all chemicals, as are the medications we swallow, the cosmetics we apply and the pesticides we spray. But somehow "chemical" has become a dirty word, synonymous with "toxin," and "chemical-free" is now a popular, albeit nonsensical, advertising slogan.” As this supports my opinion, Americans need to analyze science related terms to fully understand what scientists are trying to explain to the people. Personally, I do not believe I am a science literate. I feel this way because before reading the article regarding chemicals, I thought the chemicals were something bad for you. If I were to be a science literate I would have known the basic knowledge that chemicals are in everything and they are sometimes good for you. I also would say I am not a science literate because it is hard for me to write about
