Rhythmic editing, usually dictated by music, describes an assembling of shots or sequences according to the rhythmic pattern. It can be a narrative, as in the movie Sherlock Jr, or a music video type collage, as in Sam Hunts Take Your Time. In both cases, music takes the center stage and dialogue is suppressed. In Sherlock Jr, there are many forms of editing which highlight the films magnificence. The use of a vaudeville tune, a type of entertainment featuring a mixture of specialty acts such as burlesque comedy song and dance, recalls Sherlock Jr to be an early cinematic comedy.
