Experiments on animals should be illegal
Who gave us the right to proceed in animal experimentation? Is it because we see ourselves as superior, smarter and more intelligent people, when we too are animals? These poor creatures should have their own rights as to how they live their lives; just like humans.
Animal experimentation has been dated as far as the 1920s, aiming to evaluate the toxicity of consumer products for humans. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits are most commonly used for experimentation where they are exposed to harmful substances for discoveries and medical purposes. This is not the case as there are other alternatives such as in vitro, which uses human cells and tissue cultures to investigate disease for a potential cure. There are also computer models and stimulations, stem cell and genetic testing methods all of which do not put animals through suffering and they have been proven to have findings that are more reliable than animals testing. For instance, rats, mice and monkeys had no link with glass fibres and cancer with humans; where as, in vitro test identified the chemical skin irritants more accurately than those in animal testing. Not only are we saving lives of animals but also the economy as non-animal tests are more cost effective and environmentally friendly. Thus, living in a toxic free environment, which benefits both humans and animals . Overall, there are many companies in Australia such as Choose Cruelty Free where they raise awareness to end animals testing through campaigns and advertisements by giving away household products that have been free of animals testing. Thus, has not only proven that there are other methods to testing products for humans but most importantly saved animals from suffering
