Should obesity be considered as a disease?

It has been debated that society identifies cancer as a disease and has leading causes that lead individually to a pathway of mortality, then the health risks that obesity contains to individuals who experience obesity presents the same outcome like cancer that leads to life- threatening consequences (Frellick,2013).
The American medical associations have recently opened a newly debate based on obesity whether it should be considered as a disease or not. Obesity has become a concerning issue as the increase of its epidemic has led to 300,000 individuals to death each year in the U.S. which suggests that not enough attention has been involved in the case (Stein, Colditz, 2009). Health consequences have been a major outline in regards to obesity and two common serious diseases that is well known to medical resources are cardiovascular (heart disease) and diabetes that has been an on growing twist for people who are in this condition (stein &Colditz,2009).Researchers have found that the effect of cardiovascular disease is associated with the increase of body fat that has become a common cause of death in the united states, killing an estimate of 700,000 people a year (stein &Colditz, 2009). Diabetes is also another familiar effect of obesity and the cause itself already has other health factors such as blindness, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease and neuropathy (stein &Colditz,2009, Toback, 2013). A Variety of other health issues stand aside with obesity and instead of a singular disease causing death for example like cancer, obesity has multiple cases that leads to mortality and these include hypertension, renal disease, gallstones, cerebrovascular disease and osteoarthritis Although that diabetes and cardiovascular disease are the two main common causes, it also has an effect towards an individual’s emotional well-being.
