There has been a big debate whether sports should be allowed in school. Many believe that students do better in school without sports interfering. Therefore, schools sports should not be allowed in order to help districts save money, assist students get better grades, get rid of distractions.
In the past, school districts have been short on money, but eliminating sports could save thousands of dollars to use on academics. As Amanda Ripley stated in her article, “many schools spend over 20 thousand dollars just on grass fields” (11). “They also need to pay for buses for the team, the band, and the cheerleaders, not to mention meals and hotels on the road” (Ripley 11). This is something districts should think about, if they cut sports, students could have a better education. School sports cost way too much money, which they could use on academics instead.
Although it has been proven that sports waste people’s money, they also can affect students academically. In Ripley’s article, she states that Premont Independent School District took out sports, “first semester, 80 percent of students passed their classes compared with 50 percent the previous fall” (11). “‘There was all this

Like I said before after Premont School District took out sports, “there were no Friday night games to look forward to, no cheerleaders making posters in the hallway” (11). “Players spend long hours practicing, and that commitment extends to the rest of the school-from late-night band practices and pep rallies to meeting with parents,” with all these distractions students wouldn’t be able to get schoolwork done (Ripley 11). This reveals that without sports students would stay focused, so they can get their work done and would not end up with missing assignments. Sports are a great distraction for students, that is why they need to be
