Student athletes need to be disciplined on the use of drugs. It is dangerous to not only themselves but those around them too. First, implementing random testing will give a positive image to not hurt themselves or others. Second, drugs have negative effects and they do have consequences. Lastly, drugs have major effects on the body and drug testing could help to teach consequences. High school student athletes need to be drug tested before they are allowed to play. Some people may say, “drug testing athletes without them wanting it is invading personal privacy.” The truth is, it’s not. Athletes who are taking illegal substances are not only breaking the law, but they are putting everyone around them at risk. A drug test isn’t invading privacy it is helping to keep everyone safe. If a test came back positive, it would help the student find the help and counseling they may need. Also, high school kids shouldn’t be involved with drugs. Testing would be able to give the athletes a reason to say “no” if offered because they would find playing their sport more important. …show more content…

“Our program serves more as a deterrent rather than being designed to punish students” (Pilon). Students may find themselves pressured to fit in with others by doing things they know they shouldn’t. The drug testing will help them to deny the offer. If they knew at the beginning of the year they were being testing they might just skip out of taking drugs for a couple weeks so they know they would come up negative. Schools would test them randomly at the beginning of the year without them knowing a set date so they can find out the truth. Schools could randomly do more test throughout the year to keep track of their athletes after school activities. Drug testing can add up to a hefty price but, for safety measures it would be well worth
