Schools should not participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because technology is good for people and it could do more harm than good. “Shut Down Your Screen Week” is when people do not use technology, Internet or social medias for an entire week. Instead schools should be encouraging the use of technology in today’s world instead of encouraging students to not use it. For example technology and the Internet positively affect people in many ways, kids can learn using technology, social media can help kids keep and make friendships, and the Internet is also a way for kids to express themselves. One reason that schools should not be participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” is because kids can learn using technology and the Internet. In this article, “Many interactive games encourage strategic and critical thinking, which helps kids grow intellectually” (Leigh Gossel). This means that, though most people say that that technology ‘dumbs down people’ and though there is perhaps some truth to that, letting technology ‘dumb down people’ should not happen unless we allow it to and technology can actually help kids learn. Because of cellphones and social media, those we depend on are more accessible today than any point since we lived in small, village-like settlements” (Hampton). This means that, because friends are more accessible nowadays, you can keep long distance friendships. Also in the article by Keith Hampton, “...there was a clear trend for those who used these technologies to receive more social support than other people” (Hampton). This implies that those who use social media can get more social help from
