In Siena Heights University mission statement: It states that “The mission of Siena Heights University, a Catholic University founded and sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, is to assist people to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical through a teaching and learning environment which respects the dignity of all.” (Siena Heights University, 2018, Mission section, para. 1)
In this paper, competent, purposeful and ethical concepts will be discussed. In hopes to interpreting what those concepts, mentioned in the Siena Heights University's mission statement, have to do with leadership.
Competent leadership
Being competent, having a purpose, and being ethical are personal qualities a person should begin to develop in preparation for future leadership positions. Cloud (2006) statement regarding competent is that "there are a lot of people who are competent and good at what they do who do not get to be leaders or hugely successful" (Cloud, 2006, p. 5). In other words, people who are competent may be good at what they do, however, they may or may not become successful leaders. Being an ethical leader sets a foundation for trustworthiness and value in which all leaders should have. Siena Heights University can only help prepare future leaders with these concepts in mind via education and skill development. In final statement, these concepts are essential for leaders to follow in order to reach the highest level of scholarship in leadership.
